Key Biscayne

Key Biscayne

Connected to Miami by the Rickenbacker Causeway constructed in 1947, Key Biscayne is located in Biscayne Bay, offering breathtaking views of the Miami skyline to the northwest, the bay to the west, and the open Atlantic Ocean to the east. It is the southernmost of Miami’s barrier islands and has long been a top area destination for its gorgeous beaches, stunning tropical parks, and luxury homes.

Former President Richard Nixon had a winter home on the island during his administration, and Key Biscayne has attracted many famous athletes, musicians, actors, and doctors over the decades. With its own village, a variety of residential options, and many upscale hotels and resorts, Key Biscayne has the ideal blend of laid-back old Florida charm and modern amenities.

Oceanfront Condos and Ultra-Luxe Single-Family Homes

Whatever kind of home you desire, you are sure to find it on Key Biscayne, which houses over 12,000 people. You’ll find seaside condos at Casa del Mar, the island’s tallest building at 27 floors, and The Towers at Key Biscayne. The Key Colony contains four different condominium buildings in a gated community that features private beach access, tennis courts, and swimming pools and has won awards for architecture and landscaping.

The newest development, Oceana at Key Biscayne, contains ultra-luxury residences adjacent to the heart of the village for easy shopping, dining, and activities. Elegant single-family homes in Spanish Mediterranean and contemporary styles can be found throughout the island as well, many with private manicured grounds and swimming pools shaded by palm trees. Locals travel the island by golf cart, giving it a vacation vibe that visitors and residents alike love.

Shopping, Dining, Recreation, and More

You don’t have to leave Key Biscayne to find everything you need when it comes to eating out, shopping, sports, and entertainment. Nature aficionados head to the island’s two largest parks for fun: Crandon Park to the north and Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park to the south. The parks offer a wealth of outdoor opportunities, including sailing, fishing, hiking, birdwatching, golf, and tennis. “The Key” also hosts the Miami Open tennis tournament, and boating enthusiasts enjoy the Key Biscayne Yacht Club with its marina on the bay.

The self-governing village, with its own fire and police departments, plus post office and public library, has numerous places to dine on fresh seafood and international cuisine. It also has several local and designer boutiques, as well as the usual supermarkets, pharmacies, and hardware stores.

The island of Key Biscayne boasts multiple healthcare facilities, too, including physicians’ offices, a pediatrics clinic, and an urgent care. One of Florida’s most prestigious magnet schools, MAST Academy, is located on the island, along with St. Agnes Academy, a private Catholic school. Many children also attend school in exclusive Coral Gables or at Miami’s other top-flight private institutions.

Whether you’re enjoying fine dining on the waterfront, visiting the island’s historic Cape Florida Lighthouse, or lounging on a beautiful sandy beach, distinctive Key Biscayne has something to appeal to everyone.
